A Chess Edinburgh and Lothians update from David Stewart..

To all,

I hope everyone is keeping safe and well and an update regarding Chess Edinburgh and Lothian’s.

Chess in the Park

The hope is to start in early Spring for the whole season every Thursday and Sunday 2 – 5 pm from 31 March 2022, subject to confirmation, at the Fountain Cafe until the end of October.

Braille Chess Set

I have been given a Braille wooden Chess Set as a donation. A useful item for any player that is partially sighted or who is blind. Should any Club know of a player that would benefit from such a Chess Set please contact me.

Leagues

Our Council is elected to serve the Member Clubs wishes in which we require to abide by our rules and Constitution which are available via our Website.

Clubs made the decision at their AGM from a vote or by mutual agreement what as a Club they were planning to do in which their players made the decision.

Our Council have yet to meet and decide as to what is going to happen with the outstanding fixtures both for the Leagues and Lothian’s Championship.

When all the Clubs are playing over the Board Chess is when the leagues and other Chess Edinburgh and Lothian’s indoor events can resume. This is conditional and subject to any restrictions imposed by the Scottish Government.

Chess Scotland Club Membership

Chess Scotland to encourage Clubs to start playing over the Board has made a generous offer regarding Club Membership. Should any Club join the membership fee has been reduced by half to £22.50 for a six-month period. The benefit is that you can grade 500 internal games and that applies to graded friendly matches in which both Clubs are Chess Scotland Member Clubs.

See Chess Scotland Membership for details.

Omicron restrictions

The current virus restrictions are due to end on Monday 17 January 2022 as per the statement at the Scottish Parliament.

Below is a Club update, from the above date or a future date that it is suitable to play over the board Chess. For the date when a Club intends to resume, please consult with the Contact at the Club.
