A Chess Edinburgh and Lothians update from David Stewart..

To all,

An update regarding Chess Edinburgh and Lothian’s events.

Leagues

The leagues restarted in October after a long absence due to Covid. The up-to-date tables, fixtures and team pools are available on the Website in which it is good to see a number of new players joining Clubs.

Allegro League

After making an appeal to all the Clubs, the good news is that Peter Woollven of Badgers Brook has volunteered to take on this task, which is appreciated. The Allegro League, teams of four players, will return next season from October until March at Slateford Bowling Club on the second Thursday of each month.

Lothians Championship

The Lothians Championship will restart next season. An individual event played at Club’s venues over five rounds during the league season in which the Organiser is Calum McGillivray.

Chess in the Park

After a successful season the plan is to return in April for the new season.

Chess in the Park will be organised every Thursday and Sunday 2 – 5 pm, at the Fountain Cafe, until the end of October.

You are likely be aware that our Chess equipment was destroyed by a fire last June. The aim is to replace the chess equipment subject to storage space at the Fountain Cafe being available.

Players are requested to bring their own Chess equipment once we restart.

Analogue Chess Clocks

A request to Clubs and players for analogue chess clocks to be donated in any condition for Chess in the Park. Ideally they should be small clocks, due to storage.

Trophy - Appeal

Does anyone have a Chess Edinburgh and Lothians Trophy from before Covid began. Likely that any trophy will be with an Office Bearer from a Club. Some trophies, I have not seen in a few years in which I am trying to locate them.

Best wishes
David
