Five graded friendlies were played on Monday 12th June.

Great to see Patrick make a welcome return to the club.

All the games were closely fought.

Isaac had a great victory against Allan who was in control but had missed the strength of the e6 pawn push that decisively turned the tables. The e pawn forcing its way through to the 7th rank and could not be stopped from promoting to a queen.

Mathew played a b3 pawn push that weakened the black squares allowing Qf6 hitting pawn on f2 and rook on a1. He did well to spot Ba3 skewering rooks on e7/f8 and defending the rook on a1. This led to an exchange of rook for two knights with black having the more exposed king. In the end Euan got the upper hand in a close middlegame.

New member David played his first graded game and played well against Gerry. A valuable lesson for future games was to consider the option that knights can go backwards as well as forwards!
