Four friendlies were played at the club on Monday 19th December with wins for the players with the white pieces.
Graded Friendlies
Charlie played the Blackburne Shilling Gambit against my Italian game and I took a lot of time on the clock to avoid falling in to any traps. In the end the position simplified with whites slight lead in development resulting in winning a pawn.
Sam played the Queen’s Gambit Declined Semi-Tarrasch variation against Charles and although a pawn was lost in the opening with more active play there would have been some compensation. A hard to see tactic would have saved the b7 pawn but when this was lost the resulting rook endgame two pawns down was simply losing.
