We travelled to Roslin for our 3rd league match against Pentland Hills 1.
All the games were were looking close for a while but we ran out 4 - 2 winners in the end.
Once again I did not manage to see how many of the games finished!
Matt was a pawn up in a rook ending and possibly missed a few options for a win, drawing in the end.
All the other games looked to have complicated middle games so good to see Richard, Nathaniel and Euan converted to wins.
Charles had a steady draw.
I wasted too much time trying to avoid opponent swapping material to simplify his position retaining the pawn I had gambited. My position was better than I thought and eventually I recovered the pawn to reach an equal game with rook versus bishop and knight. Queens came off but black was able to push through a pawn towards a new queen. Only chance was to sacrifice rook for the pawn and head for a king + bishop + knight versus king ending. Philip Best knew this ending and smoothly delivered checkmate!
