Home loss against Pentland Hills 1

Pentland Hills 1 got their revenge winning by 3½ - 2½.
Euan’s great league form continues with another victory.
Richard was worse out of the opening and lost relatively quickly.
Allan appeared to have some initiative but the tables turned as the endgame was reached. Looks to have done well to defend a king and rook plus two pawns against a king and rook.
Ralph’s king looked to be exposed against an attack by Charlie Nisbet that finished with a draw.
I was fortunate to find some counterplay in a tricky position that saw white lose his queen, then promote to a queen that had to then be sacrificed to fend off my attack! After the smoke had cleared and struggling to mae the time control a draw was accepted.
Charles was hoping to play positionally on the queen side but with the centre blocked with pawns, white had time to throw king side pawns forward. Endgame with rook and extra pawns against knight and bishop was winning for white with little opportunity to go wrong.
A close match that could have gone either way but well done to Pentland Hills for a deserved victory.
