Home win against Wandering Dragons 2
Crawford Macnab
6 February 2023
Unfortunately Wandering Dragons 2 defaulted the bottom two boards and we finished up winning by 5½ - ½.
Ralph and Euan both won by default. Fortunately they were drawn against each other in the club championship and decided to play this to salvage the evening!
Matt was first to finish with a win with the black pieces against Donald Heron’s 1.c4.
Richard was a minor piece up and an outside rook pawn about to promote forced a resignation.
Allan’s opponent was in severe time trouble but reached the time control only a pawn down. With opposite coloured bishops it was going to be tricky to convert to a win. His opponent found a nice tactic to win back a pawn and a draw was agreed.
Charles was last to finish and carefully supported his passed rook pawn towards becoming a queen. In the end a knight sacrifice resulted in the queen promotion being guaranteed.
A good match win keeps us top of the league.
