Club Night - 12th Feb 2024
Crawford Macnab
12 February 2024
Two games in the club championship were played on Monday 12th February 2024.
Club Championship
Euan and Crawford agreed a shortish draw after multiple exchanges left both sides with bishop and knight plus pawns with little scope to push for a win.
Matt played his trusted line in the Benko Gambit that delays capturing the white pawn on a6. Charles was unfamiliar with this line and did not appreciate how difficult it was for white to manage his three pawn islands.

Civil Service 2 v Corstorphine 1
This was a tough one for the 2nd team against a strong Corstorphine 1st team, heavily outgraded on most boards.
Gerry agreed a draw with the young junior on board 5 to avid the whitewash.
João had drawing / winning chances against Chris Sykes with rook, bishop and pawns (one passed) against two rooks and pawns. Unfortunately he allowed one of the rooks to be sacrificed for bishop and pawn with check that simplified to a lost rook and pawn ending.
