Club Night - 25th Sep 2023
Crawford Macnab
25 September 2023
Three graded friendlies were played on Monday 25th September.
Sandy, João, Euan and Crawford played a series of 15 minute games. João and Euan played a game of DUCK CHESS (chess.com) with a packet of chewing gum representing the duck. A bit bizarre and must be the first such game played at the club!
The duck is a brick - pieces cannot move through the square occupied by the duck. However, knights can jump over the duck. Each player’s turn has 2 steps: After moving a piece, the duck must be moved to a different and empty square. There is no check or checkmate. Capture the opponent’s king to win. (Invented by Dr Tim Paulden.)

---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Charles Gunn-Russell | 1763 | ½ - ½ | Eric Smith | 1601 |
2 | Tommy Li | 0 - 1 | Derek McCann | 1194 | |
3 | William Lindved | 1 - 0 | Patrick Miller | 1413 |
Eric and Charles were surely equal throughout their game.
William and Patrick’s game was equal for a long time but later Patrick blundered.
Tommy lost his queen against Derek and there was no way back after that.
