Second Team Lost to Gorgie Dalry
Gerry Brown
11 March 2024
This was a match Civil Service needed to win to get off the bottom of the league table.
We had a bad start having to default board 2.
William Lindved won quickly in an amazing game. William won without moving either rook or either knight. His opponent blundered a piece in the opening and William finished the game by attacking with his queen and both bishops.
Patrick drew his game after a series of exchanges left a blocked pawn structure with neither side able to make progress.
Gerry won on board 6 winning a pawn and then the exchange when his opponent failed to develop an attack and instead regrouped his pieces.
Eric on board 1 lost an exciting game where his opponent developed a very strong attack which could only be countered by giving up the exchange. His opponent’s rook wiped up some pawns and was able to force promotion of his own pawn.
João had a drawn position but realising he had to push for a win to win the match, overpushed and eventually lost two pawns and then the game.
A disappointing end to the league season.
