Club Night - 23rd Dec 2024
Crawford Macnab
23 December 2024
Two decisive games in the second round of the club championship played on Monday 23rd of December.
Club Championship
A win for Eric over Mathew with the black pieces. Mathew sensed an opening trap had been set but did not manage to work it out and dropped a piece.
Paul was a pawn down and apparently exchanging queens rather than rooks would have made it more difficult for black to promote his extra pawn.

Friendlies
Charles was a pawn up in a rook endgame with Isaac’s king trapped in the corner. With the white king brought forward to support winning of a second pawn on f7 it all looked decisive for Charles. However Isaac had sneakily set a trap by sacrificing his rook (with check) to gain a draw with a stalemate! The white king could not escape and Isaac simply had to keep checking the white king.
Marcel and Crawford played a number of 5+3 games with the Bronstein mode. Mostly wins for the player with the white pieces.
