Brian Wurr Memorial Match

Corstorphine were again the visitors to compete for the Brian Wurr Memorial trophy.

This is the fifth time we have played this match since the first one in 2017.

The teams were mostly level on grading with Corstorphine playing three J14 juniors.

The match was won 8½ - 4½ by Corstorphine which was their first victory in this competition.

Congratulations to Corstorphine on a well deserved victory and well done to the three juniors who all won their games.

Next time we may have the top board play their game using the Culloden style chess set!

BRIAN WURR MEMORIAL TROPHY MATCH

The Brian Wurr Memorial Trophy was gifted to the club by Sheila Wurr, widow of Brian Wurr who was a Civil Servant working in the Inland Revenue. It consists of a Battle of Culloden Chess Set shown below and is awarded annually to the winner of a challenge match between the chess club and a team from the Edinburgh Civil Service Chess Club.
