Club Spring Lightning
Crawford Macnab
15 April 2025
A strong turn out of fifteen players took part in the Spring Allegro.
Two qualifying sections of 8 and 7 players were played over 7 rounds with Euan McDiarmid and Charles Gunn-Russell winning their respective sections. Both Euan and Charles had a perfect 100% score of 7/7.
A play off for the trophy was then played between Charles and Euan, with Euan having 7 minutes and 6 minutes for Charles.
Both players played the opening moves very quickly perhaps still in the very fast mode of play they needed to use in the qualifying section when they would often just have two minutes.
Just out of the opening Euan made a blunder that lost a piece and after a few moves resigned.
This is Charles first time winning the Spring Lightning having previously won the Autumn Lighting in 2022-23.
Both Crawford and Douglas won all their games apart from losing to Euan and Charles respectively.
Well done to Ed Neilson scoring a commendable 4/7 on his lightning debut.
