Details Regarding Brian Raymond Wurr

Following the very welcome presentation of an attractive Battle of Culloden Chess Set and Board from Sheila Wurr, widow of Brian Wurr, Corstorphine Chess Club established some of the background to Brian and his chess interests. With the excellent help of David Stewart of the Bank of Scotland Chess Club the following details have been uncovered:

Born 1954 died 2011 in Corstorphine.

Worked for the Inland Revenue latterly in Edinburgh.

Played in an annual chess competition in London for the Scottish Branch of the Inland Revenue and had an English Chess Federation PCN (PersonalChessNumber). Another member of this team was Gordon Macdonald who played for the Edinburgh Civil Service. Stuart McKinney of Gorgie Dalry also worked for the Inland Revenue and although they didn’t work in the same office they both represented Scotland in the Inland Revenue Annual Spring Sports Event in Nottingham. This was a 3 player team and we played against teams from different areas of England and Wales. This was many years ago one such year being 1994.

Was active in chess in the 1970s and 1980s but did not have a Chess Scotland grading and so could not have played many (if any) League or Congress games.
